Al Barari: the green one
Al Barari is a low-density villa community inside botanical gardens, founded by Zaal Mohamed Zaal in 2005. Over 60% of its 15.3 million sq ft is given to greenery. It suits a family that wants a big villa, privacy and shade, and is happy to drive. It doesn't suit anyone who needs a metro or a school on site.
Villas sit inside the gardens rather than in rows, which keeps neighbours out of sight, and lakes and paths run between them. The Farm restaurant is in the gardens, and The Bay Health Club and Heart & Soul Spa are on site. Homes run from large villas to apartment buildings such as The Cape.
With so much land left to gardens, there are relatively few homes, so the choice at any one time is thin. Villas also differ a great deal in plot, age and layout. Compare like with like: which lake or garden a villa faces, when it was built, and what the service charge is.
Two practical points. Kids Spot Nursery is on site, but there is no school inside the community; Dunecrest American School is just outside. And there is no metro anywhere near: Mall of the Emirates on the Red Line is about twenty minutes by car, with no direct bus. This is a driving community.
