Dubai Marina: the walkable one
Dubai Marina is a district of residential towers built along a man-made canal, between Sheikh Zayed Road and the sea. It suits adults and couples who want the water, the tram and the beach on foot. It suits families less well: KHDA lists eight nurseries in the Marina but no school.
Most errands are a walk. Cafés and restaurants line the promenade on both banks, Dubai Marina Mall has its own tram stop, and JBR's public beach sits behind the seaward towers. RTA water taxis stop around the canal, and the Dubai Ferry leaves from Marina Mall.
The Marina is built out, so almost every home for sale is a resale in a finished tower. That is the advantage: you can see the flat, the view and the state of the building before you pay. It is also the risk, because towers age differently. Ask for the service-charge history and any planned major works.
The tram stops at Dubai Marina Mall, Dubai Marina and Marina Towers. It meets the Red Line twice: at Sobha Realty station, from the Dubai Marina stop, and at DMCC station, from the Jumeirah Lakes Towers stop.
