A ring of man-made islands shaped like a world map, about 4km offshore. Still mostly empty sand, with a few resorts taking shape.
The World Islands: a project still being built
The World was dredged in the 2000s as more than 260 private islands, each meant to be sold whole. Progress has been slow. Industry estimates put the share built or under construction at somewhere between ten and fifteen per cent.
Most of the activity is on Heart of Europe, a cluster of themed resort islands by Kleindienst Group. Floating villas there start around AED 22 million. There is no bridge and no road. You arrive by boat, about fifteen to twenty minutes from the Marina, or by helicopter.
This is a buy for people who want something rare and are comfortable with a long wait. It is not a neighbourhood you move into next month.
Mostly still sand
Only a small share of the 260 islands has been built. The rest is open water and bare land.
Boat or helicopter
There is no bridge. Every trip on or off the islands is by water or by air.
A long-term bet
Buyers here want something nobody else has, and can wait years for the rest to fill in.
